The rest of the holiday diary

Got up early (well, 9am) on Thursday, got my stuff together and got a lift to the nearest train station servicing Nuremberg from my parents who went on to do some cross-country skiing, the weather being OK and there being enough snow higher up.
The train ride was easy, then I just dropped my luggage in a locker, taking only the camera. Bought a day ticket for the public transport network and took another train for Erlangen to meet up with Elke, an old friend from my uni days. We met outside the station, walked around a bit, had lovely tea at the Teehaus (I had a gorgeous cherry crepe with chocolate sauce and cream as well) and chatted about God and the world (as we say). Walked back through the park where I stayed to take some pics and Elke went on to have a doc's appointment. I wandered around some more, took a few pictures, bought only two CDs as the Müller store in Erlangen isn't as big as the one in Nuremberg and stopped by the Spielwelt, a small but fine games shop to pick up a new boardgame (Vinci) and a fun little card game (Biberbande, i.e. Gang of Beavers). Stayed a while to chat with the shop owner about old times (he used to organise the trips to the Essen Game Fair) and new games and then made my way back to Nuremberg.
I'd wanted to have a look for more CDs but after buying a new leather jacket and having quite a few bags to juggle, I only took a few night shots in the city and went back to the station to pick up my luggage. Phoned Christiane and took the underground to Fürth station where she had been waiting already.
Said Hi to Stefan, dropped off my stuff, and was greeted by two bouncing (literally) kids, one 10, the other a bit over 2. Sat down and chatted for a while, had some dinner and then joined a roleplaying session, taking over an NPC for the evening. It was very good fun to play some classic fantasy city adventure again (trying to kidnap a wealthy merchant and failing miserably).
Friday
Slept in until 10 or 11, had some breakfast, helped prepare dinner and made Mousse au Chocolat again. We spent the afternoon playing Vinci which a bit like Risk but with different elements with the main feature being having the option to let your civilisation go under. Very good, quite tactical game but a bit long for my liking (to play at the Druids) and as I still needed a present, I left the game at my hosts' as a thank-you.
Dinner was fondue (the meat in broth variety) and lasted several hours, like last year. There was much food, salads, breads and of course wine and beer. The mousse was very well received again which made me happy.
At midnight, we clinked our glasses and then went outside to burn some fireworks.
The evening finally ended at about 5am, after some partying, listening to Claus reading from his LotR parody and chatting until the wee hours. I drew the short straw and therefore the short sofa so the night was less comfortable than the one before but still OK.
Saturday
Finally got up at about 11, had some breakfast with lots of coffee and even more juice and water which was followed by more chats, saying good-bye to people and playing Biberbande and Uno.
Christiane gave me a lift to airport, where I checked in quickly and triggered the very sensitive security gate but obviously they didn't find anything (might have been my watch).
Bought a bottle of 12-year-old Macallan at the duty-free shop, wrote the majority of this and read a bit.
Flight was a bit roughish at some points but actually got there earlier than scheduled. Then stupid train syndrome hit again. The Cambridge train scheduled for about 45 minutes later was subsequently cancelled which meant I had to take the train to Bishops Stortford and then wait another 20 minutes for the next slow train to Cambridge. Got taxi home, read LJ, chatted a bit on IRC and finally got to bed a lot later than intended which meant I slept until 3:30 this afternoon.
Nothing today except a bit of shopping to restock fridge, photo editing later and then reading.
