KM gig

After I managed to get done quite a lot (I can now walk through my room without tripping over various things), [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke picked me up and off we went to Norwich. Good thing we had plenty of time as first there were some slow sections due to lorries and then we completely failed to navigate to Norwich due to a complete lack of road and streetname signs. With more luck than anything else, we found a side road with parking, just a couple of hundred yards from The Marquee. Quite a reasonable alternative pub with lots of goths and metal people and metal on the jukebox. Had a drink waiting for the back bit to open and wandered in.
To describe the venue as tiny would give it too much credit. There was a bit of room in front of the very low stage and on the walkway thing. If packed, I doubt you could have fit more than 80 people in there. Tere was no stage lighting to speak of, just a few dingy lamps, not ideal for taking photos.

It took a long time for Razorblade Kisses, the opening act, to appear (10 to 9 rather than 8). They were OK, especially considering it was only half the band, with the other half being ill. The singer was really good at the slow songs but when she tried to do more powerful stuff, it simply didn't work and she lost all melody. Not too impressive but OK.

After a short break setting up things, KM took to the stage and boy did they. Even though the sound system was far from the best, they sounded great and the overall mix was perfect. The sound engineer did a fantastic job and you could differentiate instruments and vocals clearly. The majority of the setlist was from Consummate with only a few older tracks (like the classics Discotheque Necronimicon and Teenage Vampire) thrown in. Sadly, the gig was cut short first due to the monitors crapping out and then Irish Dave's strings breaking. They carried on with dead monitors for quite a while, [livejournal.com profile] filthyrikky wandering into the audience quite often so he could actually hear himself.

Despite that, it was great fun and I managed to take quite a few cool pictures. As there was no lighting to speak of I had to use the flash but still most of the pics are quite good, just not nicely coloured. Due to the small stage, it was almost impossible to catch a good pic of Belle as he was usually obscured by the other band members but I've got one or two.
I've started to edit them but the majority will have to happen during the week as I have to take pics at the Tha Chi intensive tomorrow and finish Project Tidy.

So instead of being sensible and going to bed, I edited all the KM photos last night, meaning I finally got to sleep at about 3:30. Not good, as I wanted to be at the Tai Chi Intensive for 10 this morning, which I somehow managed. I'd offered to take photos for the website of the Cambridge Branch and I think I managed quite a few good ones. The workshop showed me how much of a beginner I am. In the first half, they only did so-called foundation exercises and warm-ups two of which I'm familiar with, the rotating one looked OK but I'm quite sure I won't be able to do the one that involves squatting for some time to come...

Uploading KM pics atm and then it's back to Project Tidy.

Cool gig last night, despite being cut short by technical problems (first the monitors failing and then Irish Dave's strings breaking) at a tiny venue with a tiny stage.
As there was no decent stage lighting to speak of, I had to resort to flash which is always a bit tricky as the coverage is usually limited but I think some of the pics came out OK.

I guess I'm about halfway there but at least my place has now some semblance of a habitable room. For some reason, I decided on a whim to dump out my chest of drawers and got rid of several bags of socks, pants and t-shirts that don't fit me anymore but are still fine for the clothes bank. I still have to sort out the stacks and heaps of stuff under the windows but that has time until next Sunday. Then I have the 11th and probably part of the 12th as well as the following Saturday to finish it all off (tidying shelves and getting rid of ballast).

Now some dinner and then relax with a book and early bed. *nods*

There was just a fantastic programme about the Mississippi on BBC2 by Kenny Salwey, a "River Rat", i.e. someone who lives at and from the river and its sorrounding ecosystem. Very informative, beautifully photographed and almost poetically narrated. The soundtrack of haunting Old Time Jazz, Mississippi Delta Blues, Cajun and Bluegrass was just the icing on the cake.
Wonderful TV.
