Day 1
Taxi to bus station and then bus to Stansted weren't a problem so I checked in (rather busy so that took a while), had some dinner at a fast Italian place (the food court has been expanded since the last time, there's a Pret a Manger, the Italian place and other things), got through customs and was then tempted by the World of Whisky. Stupid me had forgotten the recommendations [livejournal.com profile] whiskeylover had given me at one point so I randomly decided on a Talisker (15 Years, distiller's edition). If it was the right choice, we'll see tomorrow night as I bought it as a family present.
To avoid being tempted by other things, I headed over to the gate and sat down to read (I had an hour to kill). Unfortunately, the inbound aircraft was delayed by what came in the end to about 45 minutes (winter related problems in Nuremberg). A quick phonecall to parents established that they were on the way and that the roads had been OK, so I had a chance of getting home.
The flight was uneventful, just the last bit into Nuremberg was a little bumpy. There was a long queue at passport control (the plane had been pretty much full) and my luggage still hadn't arrived after I was through.
Got out eventually, greeted my parents and off we went. The roads were free at first, but as we got closer to home, the snowier they became. The last ten kilometers or so were snow-covered but just a few centimetres (about the same amount that brought Southern England to a standstill last year) so not a problem at all for people who are used to it :oP. About five minutes from home it started snowing really heavily but we got home safely.

By the time I was in bed it was after 3am. I usually can't sleep well the first night I'm somewhere else but after a bit of restless turning, I slept and only woke up once (not quite sure why) and then after a little nightmare (my bagpack with the laptop and the whisky had been stolen at a German roleplay con). It was 11:30 then, anyway, so I decided to get up.

A wonderful winter day. I haven't taken any photos but imagine blue skies and about five inches of snow on the ground. Nice.

The day was spent eating, checking out my new living room (TV, radio/tape, couch and armchairs but no phoneline), starting to read the Illuminatus trilogy which so far is very confusing but promises fucked up greatness, eating, watching a bit TV and now spodding online for a bit.
