Characters - mirrors of ourselves
18 Dec 2001 11:13 amI think it was
borusa who mentioned it a while ago, most characters we play have an aspect of ourselves we either emphasise or suppress completely.
I thought about this and think this is absolutely true and also the reason why I simply can't play certain kind of characters (sidhe, high fantasy elves, Ventrue etc.).
To take the chars most people who read this know:
- I think Alucard was just myself really, with certain aspects given free reign
- Walter Fresenius, my SoE, is the scientist/engineer I always wanted to be. It was scary when I wrote his background and discovered lots of my own history in it when I reread it.
- Sam, Chef of Albion, is the master chef I'd like to be but will never have the patience to try and practice and train enough
- Fitz, my Pooka, is the naughty kid I never had the courage to be
- Balthasar the Tremere is the linguist, blown up to scary levels (ling x5, natural linguist), the moody researcher, the stuffy bookworm, oh, and the cynical bastard ;o)
