Fun at Dragonmeet
2 Dec 2001 03:34 amGot up at the ungodly (for Saturday) hour of 7:30 to go to Dragonmeet in London, a one-day gaming convention run by Gameforce, a group of UK publishers.
Guest of Honour was John Kovalic, creator of Dork Tower, a RPG spoof comic based on real life gamers (a bit like Knights of the Dinner Table but different style). John sat there all day signing copies of comics and games. A very cool and funny man, easy to talk to.
I managed to get one of the 60 copies of Dork Tower #15 which constituted the first print run, as the printing machine blew up after those 60 copies ;o), a Clanbook Perky (sorry, but![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
puddingcat really looks like Gilly ;o), a copy of Murphy's Rules and a copy of Munchkin (spoof dungeonraiding card game).
There was obviously a trade hall, where I left too much money again. My Christmas treat this year: a genuine Malachite dice set for £40. I'm a bit of a dice freak, I want new and funky dice. I have plastic, glass and now semi-precious stone ones, I'm only waiting for metal ones.
I spent time saying hi to familiar faces, watching the odd game, trying other games, spending more money and playing Warhammer FRP with Ken Walton, author of Realms of Sorcery.
The highlight for me was the charity auction at the end, where I managed to outbid James Wallis three times which now makes me the proud owner of three orginal pieces of art by John Kovalic: the T-Shirt design for this year (£70), the alternative T-Shirt design for last year (£70) and the pencil sketch for a T-Shirt concept (two dragons, one says "Yo!", the other "Hey, how's it going?") (£45).
Oh, and a Slayer flexidisc (from an old White Dwarf) with a silly metal song (£15).
Good fun, too much money spent but well worth it. Need to buy frames on Monday.
