This lunchtime, as I was casually surfing the ICC Website for new pictures, I came across the link for the XP Awards, so I had a look to see who was good enough in the eyes of the jury to earn extra.
Big was my surprise to read my own name in the Changeling section, a +1 over cap award for Sam aka Chef of Albion.
I can't really say if I deserved it or not, I played my character as I always do and he did the things he does. Cooking for HKD was just one of his dreams, and it got fulfilled. I don't know if that was the deciding factor or other things. He's just a pebble in the large sea of characters. Aruna Dawnchild got the same award, and she's a far more central character to not only that game but the Chronicle as a whole. *Shrug*
Well, somebody liked my performance, and for that I'm grateful, and I won't complain, even if I think I didn't deserve it, but that's just modest me. ;o)
Sam's really my deepest character at the moment. He started out as a standby character for the first UK 'ling National, should anything happen to my Primary (a Squirrel Pooka). I just sat down and wrote a basic char (no approval whatsoever) and a short background in about two hours but it literally flowed out of fingers and the figure started forming. As I had volunteered for kitchen duty at the National, I offered Rhona to have the char cook the banquet IC, which she was happy with. (That's where the Chef of Albion nickname started off).
The whole Chef thing expanded as he (and I) cooked big time for the second National (about 10 hours total over the weekend, for 52 people, argh) and HQA officially announced his title. *grin*
Other things included the growing bond with Sarah Baker (NikkiB's Boggan) who he had met in the Glade (IRC) and invited over to the UK for a while.
I think what really defined the character was the Week of Nightmares (which led to Sam and Sarah swearing an oath to each other) and the unsanctioned game at Nicola's after this year's Vamp National.
We'll see where he's going from here. He's on world tour at the moment, anyway (Albion, Concordia, Caledonia, back to Albion) - hey if Jamie Oliver can go on tour, so can he ;o)
Now, how do I get to Australia?
