karohemd: photo by me (Science)

I'm actually rather disappointed by the live pictures that were shown here. One would have thought the detail would be better 40 years later.

Hehe. I have to laugh heartily at the nutjobs crying about how evil we are to wound the moon. Because, ya know, being bombarded by objects in space daily, many of which leave craters many orders of maginitude bigger, somehow doesn't count nearly as much as a relatively tiny bit of man-made debris...

The fuss some of them have made with online petitions - you'd think NASA fired an X megatonne H-bomb to blow the south pole off, while cackling maniacally and twirling moustaches... And yeah the footage was a bit of a damp squib but it was a large, hollow lump of metal falling into a pile of sand, followed by a much smaller solid lump of metal so it's not much of a surprise.

Well, yes but I would have expected some clearer pictures before the impact.

"Dr. Conehead! We've found traces of plasticine in the debris. What do you make of it?"

It immediately came to mind. As I couldn't remember the title of the film, I googled "moon rocket eye" and got what I wanted. ;o)

Also, this (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/10/09/lcross_nutter_roundup/) from the Register.
