karohemdI finally seem to have managed to get the HDMI connection between laptop and TV working. Previously, the sound wouldn't work but I finally realised that I needed to change the sound output from speakers to HDMI.
Some fiddling later with the picture actually working when the laptop screen is closed and tadaa, I can watch AVIs on my TV with better sound while working on my PC. :D
