The plot is worthy of Bonekickers, ya rly, because it's not about sharks loose in the canals of Venice, it's about an old conspiracy theory, the "treasure of the Medici" (them old Venitian banking family, whose name is mispronounced and misspelled in various ways throughout the film) which is in fact - hold your breath - the treasure from the Temple of Solomon brought back from the Crusades by Marco Polo's fleet. In the prologue, the main character's father is diving and killed by a shark. His son (Stephen Baldwin) then follows in his footsteps, finds the treasure while dodging sharks (gets bitten a bit, though) and Indiana Jones style traps and again on his way back. He comes to in a hospital a couple of days later. Slowly it emerges that the Mafia is behind the sharks who want to keep people from looking for the treasure. A chase scene and a kidnapping later, the protagonist has to dive for his life to get the treasure or his girlfriend is fed to the sharks. More chase scenes and fights above and under water and in the treasure cave follow and then the big show down with the police (which has various bits of reused footage like one of the SWAT members abseiling down from the ceiling) while the good guy and the bad guy fight under water (conveniently allowing each other to get up for air once in a while). Obviously, the bad guy gets eaten by his own shark. Obviously, the treasure is lost forever but the hero saved a piece as a wedding present for his gf.
Choice quotes:
"I am bleeding and I can't talk."
"You're going to be in heaven in a few moments but first I'm going to put you through hell."
"This is Captain Buena Sera, put your weapons down." (Captain Good Evening) He's actually saying "Bonasera" but this way it's funnier.
