Stop the Remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Stop the Remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show

To be honest, it could go either way. At least Richard O'Brien is involved so let's hope he'll have some say in the casting and production. There have been some rather good theatre productions in recent years so they might go from there.

As much as I love the Rocky Horrow Picture Show, it does look horribly dated, hopefully some more cash pumped into it will make it look spectacular.

Richard O'Brien is quoted by the BBC as saying the first he knew about it was when people sent him US newspaper cuttings, and that he's having nothing at all to do with it. He is not exactly pleased...

Yes, she is, I can vouch for her.
She's quoting one of the RHPS callbacks.

Oh come on, "Like your neck" is what the audience shout-back at the narrator during the film, because his neck is very short. Example, during narrator part before the storm scene:

Narrator: It's true, also, that the spare tire they were carrying was badly in need of some air
Audience: Like your neck!

I assumed that you had e.g. watched the film, with people, and would therefore get the joke.

Oops! I should have known that ; ) I watched it live in Swansea once, but the audience didn't shout out that much!

OK, where to begin:

- A remake won't suddenly cause the original to become crap. "Save the lips"? Seriously. Don't get me started. I haven't seen this egregious a piece of hyperbole since Strikethrough.

- RHPS fandom is a tiny proportion of those who would watch an RHPS remake. Most fans will go and watch it if it's made anyway.

- Movie Mogul: "I could make money of a RHPS remake, but these thousands of Internet peoples don't want me to - I suppose that's a bad idea then. Oh, no, hold on, wait, I'm not selling to the people who won't watch it but to those who will. and many of these guys may change their mind anyway."

- Not all movie remakes suck - why not just judge this one on its merits?

Am I just missing something really fundamental?

I got it!

(And laughed... And after I read my dear friend HW's indignant response, I laughed even more!)

Yeah, you missed the bit about the fact that by protesting against it, folk give it free publicity. It becomes instantly and automatically controversial, and possibly even newsworthy because of that.

Of course what they should really do is make a film of the Baroque Picture Horror Show, cos then I'd be rich and infamous!
