That was quite fun, actually.
Stupid question? How old is Donna's granddad? She's what, 40? I'm 38 and both my grandfathers would be over 100 years old now. He didn't look older than 80.

ETA: I am perfectly aware that it's perfectly physically possible (both being born when their mothers were 20), I just find it unusual.

If each generation had children when they were 20 that would work, not entirely unreasonable really.

Flip side is the 28 yo grandma.... Yeah. She gave birth to a daughter at 14, who gave birth in turn at 14....

Oh, it's obviously physically possible.

*nods* Things like that often seem to run in the family.

Also pretty realistic, my mum was 24 (or there-abouts) when I was born and that was considered a bit late for her generation.

How old was your dad?

A couple of years older, though I'd like to think my family is fairly non-chavvy ;)

in theory its doable.
if he had kids young and they in turn had kids young then it can happen.

My cousin was born on his mothers 16th, my grandparents were Not Amused (but raised him anyway), and he was married at 18 when his bride was pregnant.

I was born when my Mum was mid twenties, much more sensible. Shannon Matthews (the abducted kid) grandmother lives near us, lots of local press coverage, she's mid thirties, not much older than me.

So yeah, he's probably late 70s, I'd put her late 30s and mother in 60s, which'd make sense and be about right, families were started younger post-war (NHS & Baby Boom, etc.)

Trust me on this: a forty-year two-generational gap is a model of restraint for some postcodes.

If it had been Rose, I wouldn't have been surprised. :oP

Well, add a couple of decades of disillusionment and a job with a suit and Rose is not dissimilar to Donna.

My parents were 22 and 25 when I was born. My youngest grandparent would have been 92 were she still alive today but her two sisters still are (90 and 94).

I enjoyed the episode too.

Yeah. It may be 'pushing things' but it's not thaaat unreasonable.

Interestingly, I didn't find it at all strange, and my paternal grandfather was born in 1878.

Can I just say that I love you because you have a Bakshi Lord of the Rings icon?

You certainly can.

While I love the Peter Jackson films, I also remember with great fondness the animated version.

My pals and I loved the Bakshi version long before the Jackson films came ealong! It wasn't perfect, but it seemed pretty damned good at the time! :)

I saw it when it first came out and loved it but was so disappointed when it just stopped halfway through. I especially loved Gandalf's bristling moustache. ;o)

My mother was 19 and my grandmother was 39 when I was born. My great grandmother was also alive and lived until I was 25 or 26. Of the three, my grandmother is the only one alive now. She will be 77 and I'll be 37 in June (our birthdays being two days apart).
