Two shots of Shelly:

Guerilla shot in public
This was fun, the "How to shoot Glamour in public without getting arrested" bit. We had a bit more than 10 seconds to shoot this before she put on her coat again. ;o)

Sleepy Shelly

Note: Please respect the model in your comments.

Love that outdoor photo!

(A bit of a rueful sigh at the choice of model, though - why is it always that particular body type that gets all the camera attention?)

The second shot would be very sexy if it wasn't for the visible bones between her breasts :( That's not a fault in your photography, though :)

Indeed. It's hard for me to focus on the quality of the photography when all I can think is "Christ that girl needs to eat some pies"

Thank you! [livejournal.com profile] scottchurch said he wants to come back to the UK. You should come along to the next one. :o)

*grins* It was certainly the most fun one to do.

*nods* Not really the point of the exercise, though.

I really like the first shot especially.

And now I have a compelling need to go lose some weight. Bother.

Aw, that's a shame. We could have done with another alternative model. :o)

I like the first one a lot, though I could do with the car between her legs being a little less noticeable - the depth of field seems odd, I guess I'd either want it deeper or much shallower. The skin tone and shading is really lovely.

The second photo seems a bit noisy to me, and I don't like the shadow on her neck very much.

I'm intrigued by how different she looks in these compared to Scott's image. Much harder (and skinnier). I assume a great deal of that is much more point lighting and harder focus, to bring out texture...

Remember, 10 seconds for the first shot. I'm glad I got what I have.

*nods* Entirely fair statements. The noise wasn't really avoidable but the shadow could have been avoided.

Lighting makes a big difference. Scott's pic on the tub was shot with light from the back and just ambient light from the front (which makes it smoother). The main light on the bed was quite close (from the lamp on the wall to the right above her head).

Also, I'm not sure how much photoshopping is in Scott's pic. I fiddle around with exposure/contrast etc. but don't actually touch the model.

...pie...

I was recently looked at oddly for saying i'd rather have a good pie than a woman ~grin~

Anorexia Bad. Do Not Want, etc. I have only dabbled with it, but that's more than enough to say the above with a great deal of conviction! (As if you didn't know that anyway, but.)

If there is a lot, he is very quick about it!

Incidently, did he talk about the model under the flyover, that was blogged a couple of weeks ago... if you didn't look closely, try and work out the lighting directions for each part of the shot.

Oh, they're good - don't get me wrong. I have one of those perfectionist things going on. I guess when you have limited time (10 seconds!) with the model, you really need to have the shot all set up in advance.

What kind of pie?

He showed us some techniques and a few minutes made quite a difference. I was also surprised that he shoots in JPEG, not RAW. I guess if you get the exposure right there and then, you don't really need to...

The one with the models in the water? According to him, there was no extra lighting involved.

*nods* I didn't want to drop the DOF more in case I screwed up the focussing and it wasn't bright enough to go deeper.

It's more the apparent different directions of light source - either major reflections or multiple times of day...

Well, ideally a nice, homemade, steak and ale/steak and kidney - perhaps with a suitable sweet pie for pudding.

Honestly, those are about 1000000x better than most Scott Church photos. For some reason he manages to make really pretty girls look very plain. She actually looks pretty sexy there.

Psst, he might read this LJ ;o)
Hah, thank you! To be honest, approach is a matter of taste and our styles are vastly different. I'm interested to see if he puts up his version of the first shot.

Clearly the ideal would be, then, a woman who can make pie. Then you can have both at once.

But i enjoy cooking! ~grin~ Though being cooked for is amazingly nice...i was always raised to keep my goals manageable and my dreams sky-high. A woman who can make pie? That sounds like a dream not a goal ~grin~

I'm stuck on making cheese and onion pies at the moment. My mum got me addicted to making them out of cheese-boards at christmas (Le Roule, Stilton, Brie, Cheddar and on), which tastes like nothing I could quite believe is true... Plus I am never quite sure on how to make a good ale sauce. Mine tend to come out watery. Am I missing something?

Don't use too much, do use it to cook the steak (etc) in - don't forget the half and half rule (half in the pot, half in the cook).

Good cheese is awesome - had a great lamb and cheese combo (hot) meat pie not so far back, lamb and stilton i think it was - super!

Oi, this post is supposed to be about photography, not pies!

Ahh, but you fail to see the truth - all the world is a pie, and the men and women merely savoury or sweet fillings within its pastry shell.

I preferred the other pictures, the model looks like she could use a pie or two. First picture here is a nice shot, though fairly generic (if you know what i mean?) and the second seems to have a busy background so the model sort of fades in - needs more contrast.

All are looking good, but i prefer your shots where there is more contrast, a little more stark.

*nods* Well, the point of the first wasn't necessarily the shot itself but the circumstance (in the street, very little time to do it). Had I had time and muse to set up a shot on my own (everybody shot the same thing at the same time), I would most likely have come up with something different.

In contrast, about half of the shots in the other post were my own setups (the mirror shots, the ones with [livejournal.com profile] demondaz and the ones with Natalie on her own.

In the second shot here, the object was to make the most of what was there and there wasn't really much else.

As I said, not my usual style but a good insight into techniques I can use for my own purposes.

Makes me feel fat and ugly. Sigh. Most glamour shots do.

As for the photography, I far prefer the top one and am very impressed that you had so little time to take it.
