Now, I'm not usually very fond of the guy but this piece on the turkey flu scare is awesome.

Hmm, I found it hard to see it as awesome -- I also find the hysteria about the flu irritating, but it's dim-witted to reflexively leap to the defence of Bernard Matthews and his vile turkey dinosaurs just because they're British and under attack.

I'm a snob, too and wouldn't eat anything from a Bernard Matthews package. A nice, hand-reared, free range turkey from, say, Northfield Farm is something else entirely.

Indeed I have not allowed bird flu to change my consumption of Bernard Matthews blended turkey shapes either :)

OK, some of the content is questionable (it would have been better if he had said "get a turkey from the local farm") but the message is good. Curiously, [livejournal.com profile] nannyo said pretty much the same thing recently about having to snog an infected turkey for weeks until you had a minute chance of contracting the flu.

Hardly- the article is so firmly tongue in turkey-stuffed cheek, that it can't be seen as a whole-hearted defence of Bernard Matthews.

Yes, it pillories the histerya about the bird flu, but the mouthwatering description of the chemical, potato & rice starch enhanced "100% turkey breast", as well as the other descriptions of the ground up turkey-derivative food stuffs quite properly lambastes Bernard Matthews for what they are- cheap, nasty and horrid; but that's due to its inherent properties, not due to bird flu

Hmm, I think you're (or Boris is) trying to have your Turkey Twizzler and eat it!

How jolly clever of him to write something that can be read in completely contradictory ways according to the reader's own pre-existing opinions.
