What kind of plugs/mains sockets do they have in South America (specifically, in Chile and Argentina)? The same as in the US or something weird?

Depends on where you're asking about.
Mains voltage in South America is weird.
It's different in different parts of the same country.

Have a look here:

Specifically Chile and Argentina.

Ah, useful site but unfortunately it doesn't specify the plug. Hopefully, my multipurpose one will have one that fits.
Thanks!

Don't know, but [profile] fruityman was in Argentina earlier this year so I will ask him when I can. I think he comes home today.

Thanks!
Found a page on wikipedia which seems to suggest it's the same as Italy and that a Euro plug will work.

He says it's definitely not a Euro one. He'll ask his gf (who lives in Argentina) later.
