XMen 3 was cool and had no cringe moments for me (a non-reader of the comics, shoot me now), except maybe Vinnie Jones in a latex muscle suit.
I have to say, I preferred Raven Darkholme to Mystique, latex bodysuit or not... Too bad the actress is actually blonde.

Since Ian McKellen came out as gay, he just hams and camps it up more in every film, it seems and he has fun doing it. :o)

Superman looks good, too, Pirates 2, anyway and Stormbreaker could just be good, too.

For those of you who don't read Neil Gaiman's blog here's some news about the Coraline film:
"Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders will voice eccentric neighbours Miss Forcible and Miss Spink in the stop-motion feature."
Excellent.

Mckellan has been openly gay for nearly the last 20 years I don't think it has much bearing on how camp his acting it.

I think its how he views the quality of the film. The worse the film the more camp and hammy his acting tends to be I guess it means he is having fun even if the film won't be any good! you only have to see the da vinci code to see this. Awful film, but you could of carved mckellan up and served his with mustard given how hammy the acting was

Vinnie Jones was the only sub-par thing about X3 IMO. Wrong voice and even in that body suit he just wasn't big enough. Plus, being the comic nerd that sometimes am, the mutant kid couldn't turn off Juggernaut's strength because he's not a mutant - just a small quibble.

As for gay, after the movie we basically decided that the whole Angle/Warren Worthington plot was about a gay son coming out to his father. Thats how it felt. Not nessecarily a bad thing, just had that overtone.

Did you stay to the end of the credits?

As I said, I don't know any of the comics, really. What is Juggernaut, then? Just a freak of nature?

Yes, several people told me to stay so I did. Well worth it. :o)

Just the stupid projectionist needs to be shot because he closed the curtains after the credits were over so the sides of the screen were covered when the last bit began. At least he noticed and stopped it. Grrrrrrr.

Taken from the Whoclix site:

Cain Marko spent his childhood tormenting his step-brother, Charles Xavier. His father would punish Cain for his bullying and Charles' growing mental powers shared the pain. Resenting Charles' intrusions, Cain grew to hate him even more. Later, when the two served in the military, Cain deserted while under fire and stumbled upon the temple of Cyttorak. A mystical crimson gem endowed Cain with untold strength and invulnerability. However without his protective helmet, he is still vulnerable to his step-brother's mental powers.

To be honest, we didn't need Juggernaut to be anything other than a mutant - too much confusion and the whole 'mystical powers' thing doesn't really fit too well with the feel of the films.

The Worthington thing always felt more about his father accepting what he knew his son was, rather than him coming out.

I agree. For the general audience Juggernaut was just that, but as a Marvbel comics and X-Men fan, it grates a bit more than anything else.

you need to cool your fan-boy jets with the x-men films, they changed Rogue's character hugely from the get go. I try to think of them as another line altogether, kind of like the 'ultimate' lines or the Age of Apocolypse

Most of the time the changes they make in the movies don't bother me because I can quite happily ignore that, but the whole Juggernaut thing beat even my sense of disbelief. Don't know why because its (as you say) not that important.

Because the only reason for him to be Juggernaut in the first place is for the comics fans. He's there so the geeks can go: "Hey! Juggernaut!", and yet he is not in any way, shape or form the Jugger that the geeks expect, so...why bother?
