A bit silly but rather fun, actually.
"Who the hell are you?" - "I'm the doctor and I just snogged Mme de Pompadour!"
and, ignore my ignorance, since when can the Doctor read memories?

ION, I made some sort of ratatouille (courgette, pointed green cabbage, mushrooms, onions and garlic cooked with chopped tomato) and a mound of mashed potato for dinner. Yum.

I thought that about the memory reading thing too. But then it allowed for a very amusing story, and ultimately that's most important I think.

It was revealed in the Fourth Doctor story The Invasion of Time that the Doctor was trained in telepathy by none other than Cardinal (later Lord President) Borusa of the Prydon Academy. However, he's not that skilled (primarily because telepaths are Hell to write for because they short-circuit plots so easily).
