[RPG] Pugmire

I thought I would revive this blog with the odd post on gaming.
One of my recent acquisitions has been Pugmire by Eddy Web, published by Onyx Path Publishing.
Pugmire is essentially Dungeons and Dragons with dogs. It uses a variant of the 5th edition rules, somewhat simplified and less voluminous with different names for the character features. The PCs are “uplifted” dogs, anthropomorphic dogs that walk upright and have evolved to use tools and language in a world a long time after the Age of Man has ended. There are classes called Callings (spellcasters, thieves, fighters etc.) and Breeds, rough groups of dog breeds like Companions (pugs, chihuahas), Runners (greyhounds, lurchers) and so on.
The world centres around the city of Pugmire, a typical medieval town, inhabited not only by dogs but also other uplifted animals like cats and rats. Further out, badgers (usually bandits) and lizards (travelling merchants from across the sea) can be found. There are mountains in the North, a huge forest in the East (beyond which is the land of the cats, the Monarchies of Mau), and a sea beyond Waterdog Port on the Southern coast. Most of the setting information in the book is about the city of Pugmire while the rest of the world has not been fleshed out in detail. For the crafty GM (or in the case of Pugmire, the Guide) this is a perfect opportunity to put their own stamp on the setting.
A separate complete game called Monarchies of Mau on cats is forthcoming. It has already been funded on Kickstarter, is currently being written and should be out in about a year or so.
I absolutely love the setting and have already run a few one-shots locally. I also started a proper campaign online using roll20.
You can buy Pugmire as PDF via DriveThruRPG. The physical book is available in the US via Studio 2 (and Indie Press Revolution soon), I've not seen it on the Esdevium Games releases list but Eddy says they should be able to order it from Studio 2.
Which brings me to an offer: I am looking for another player or two so if you're interested, comment below. We don't have a regular schedule but Sunday afternoons (UK time) are usually the preferred option.

Freeform and Poker fun

Yesterday noonish I made my way down to the depths of Bedfordshire. Traffic was alright but I got confused due to the lack of signposting and the AA's directions so I missed a turn, came onto the A5 the wrong way and then missed another turn I remembered too late from last year so I came in through Leighton Buzzard down centre which was quite busy but miraculously I managed to find the right road and got to the school in plenty of time.

The Boss of Bosses mobster freeform was good fun and my governor actually made it alive through the end, which couldn't be said of most of the mob. Result. :o)

After a break, loads more people arriving and setting up the room, the poker tournament, run by Graham A and [livejournal.com profile] mr_malk went ahead.
Suprisingly, I did really well in the beginning, moving tables twice and waving good-bye to various people who had utterly outplayed me last year. I guess it was a combination of actually having a good few hands, and much luck but I need to be more confident and aggressive on the one hand and fold more often on the other.
Staying in as long as I did also meant I got into the "Last Chance Saloon" (the losers' table) quite late which in turn meant I was horribly short-stacked and didn't get the hands I needed to get in properly.

The final table was very strong (as to be expected) and consisted of both very experienced players and absolute "virgins". The last hand was awesome when [livejournal.com profile] chomper99 went all-in with 6 and 2 off-suit which turned into a Full House which beat Andy's Flush. o_O
Due to time-restraints, the winner was determined by number of chips which meant (can't remember her name) came out on top, beating both [livejournal.com profile] chomper99 and Andy. Very cool.
I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] mr_malk will be posting the final numbers of money raised but IIRC, it was around the 1500 quid mark.
Photos tomorrow.

It was a jolly good con with loads of different games on offer. I regret that I didn't get photos of Gamers' Wives II (the freeform run by the Dempseys), a good shot of the Collective Endeavour stall (that corner was always rather busy) and obviously the auction (because I left early to get to the gig). Captions to follow.

Whee, tabletop (or rather living room floor) gaming!

It was the first session of our restarted SLA Industries game last night.
([livejournal.com profile] twentypence is the GM, [livejournal.com profile] gandalf_t_black is our human combat financier Vincent, [livejournal.com profile] raggedy_man is Arther, a Brainwaster medic, [livejournal.com profile] belak_krin is Thedge, er, sorry, Sedge, a Stormer with a lisp, [livejournal.com profile] autumn_storm is Nemesis (new to the squad), a Brainwaster Kickmurderer and I am Lenscap, a Stormer with Media package (and damn good-looking, too). There will be another Stormer played by [livejournal.com profile] rirekon next time.

It was a slow start and setup. Everyone except the Ebb users had received an invitatpion at Karma for a cheap deal on a Life After Death Account (with footage of the resurrected Deliah all over the news the night before) so we turned up and waited for a long time, accepted a squad deal, had our chips fitted (obviously not Arther) and recruited Nemesis for our BPN. After a quick stopover at Vincent's (whose fridge mysteriously malfunctioned), we called our cabbie buddy to take us to Downtown where our job will be to suppress the activities of a certain biker gang. We got as far as getting an idea of the lay of the land and then had to leave it for the night.
As I said not much happening yet but it was good for setting the scene and getting into the system again.
There was a good quote from Nemesis but I can't remember it completely and will look it up tonight.
