Winter back home

Webcam pic from a hill/mountain (depending on your perspective, it's 827m high) near my hometown.
I'm looking forward to my holidays. Hopefully, the snow will still be there then.

Lovely view. Whats the building on the left? Looks like an old medieval watch tower of sorts?

Neither medieval nor watch (more a tower for people to enjoy the view) but it's been there for a while. The orginal one was built in the 1880s and then upgraded in the 1950s.

The cam is on the tall concrete radio tower built by the German army as listening station into the East but they abandoned it 10 years ago and it's now used as a weather station and for relaying TV, radio and mobile phone signals.

Ah, cool. So how far is it from your hometown?

As the crow flies, about 8km, you can see the big tower from our terrace. I don't have a good photo online atm but on this page (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/andreas.beck/selb/02.htm), bottom photo, it's the hill with the lights going up it (a skiing slope).
I think I have a good photo on my PC at home somewhere, will upload it tonight if I remember.

That really is a lovely winter wonderland!

You have to visit sometime.

Aye :)

Any skiing nearby? I'd like to try :)

Skiing really depends on the winter. Last year after Christmas was a bit rubbish but the year before was good.
It's quite erratic.
