In an ideal world

I would have enough money to buy this bunker (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lsur for the tip-off), be able to acquire all planning permissions (big problem: it's Grade II listed) and raise the funds to convert it into a club, gain an entertainment licence and tadaa, new alternative (game) venue in Cambridge.

I can dream, OK? ;o)

Oooooh, [livejournal.com profile] sogoth would be drooling over that!

It would make a perfect place to run Die Fabrik ;o)

How much is it anyway?

The ad doesn't say, unfortunately. I'm tempted to mail them and ask, just for fun. ;o)

Get a Small Business Start-Up loan.

Seriously...

You're all taking this far too seriously...

Thing is, I probably wouldn't be in the country long enough to sustain it.

I just like to demonstrate that pipedreams are often more achievable than people think :-p

On a lighter note, it does look like it could be pretty frickin' cool!

You could go into business with a partner who could later buy you out?

I guess I could propose it to [livejournal.com profile] naranek and [livejournal.com profile] deliberateblank (who run the other two midweek alternative clubs) but they'd just laugh at me...

Do it. Go on, you know you want to... It'd be great.

Call it "Armageddon" - nothing like passing Gehenna than in your very own dance club...

I'll just pull out of this house deal we're doing; as long as there's somewhere for me, the wife and kid to kip we'll come alongside for the tune of £150K. I'm sure she'll understand.

It's certainly worth making enquiries. However, the key thing that can kill a conversion project like this is the state of the air conditioning equipment. A lot of these bunkers have had their air con units removed to provide spares for the many bunkers that the government are retaining. Without them, the bunker can just not function and replacing them is incredibly expensive.

*nods*
Ventilation is probably the biggest factor, especially in a windowless concrete block like that.
On the other hand, I don't think soundproofing would be much of a problem. ;o)

All the screams would be nicely contained. I was property manager for NATO and RAF bunkers and they are fascinating places - if you like that sort of thing!

The super-bunker at Casteau in Belgium actually sits on springs and floats in a bath of water.

oh dear...should I have kept my mouth shut...???

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2004-10-03 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
No worries.
I won't have the money to do it all.
