[LotR] Born of Hope

Some of the Cambridge film makers I did the extra work for last Saturday have a pet project:
Born of Hope, a what they call "LotR fan film" set in the time of Aragorn's childhood so in essence a prequel to FotR. Considering the budget (nil), it's very ambitious and they've produced an impressive trailer (youtube) already. If they can keep up the production values of that trailer, it's going to be rather fantastic, I think.
More production diaries etc. on youtube.

Speaking of Cambridge Filmmakers, I've just been offered more extras work on the 25th. :o)

It can't be any worse than the Peter Jackson films...

Looks well worth keeping tabs on. They've done a stunning job with the colour matching and stylistics on that trailer. I hope Peter Jackson gets wind of it, remembers his roots making monster masks in his mum's kitchen, and supports it.

Indeed.
I only did the one scene with them and while the organisation until everything was where it was supposed to be felt a bit like herding cats, the actual filming felt rather professional.

Well, I'm in their extras database now so I'm sure I'll find out what's going on. Who knows, I might end up as a lumbering orc. ;o)

Something I forgot. I think they're rather active on sites like Theonering.net etc. so PJ might well pick up on it at one point. It would be damn cool.

nice indeed. are they using the films erm... bastardisation of tolkien as the source, or are they going back to the books for reference, I wonder. that little shot of a broken sword makes me suspect the books which makes the design fascist in me go "squee" a bit :)

certainly looks intriguing.

The story covers a bit before the war of the rings based on one of the appendices but the want to match the feel of the films.

You could get in touch. I'm sure they'd welcome someone with your knowledge and skills in concept art, props/prosthetics and the like.

I'm thinking the same thing - concept art (hell, I designed half of middle-earth for the Memod project) and also thinking if they want a sword choreographer, I might be able to teach a thing of ten nowadays. :)

Their mask maker does it so he has something to show in his portfolio so why not? Sword coach sounds good, too.

Indeed they are trying to pitch into the same aesthetic as the films in order to get a visual continuity. Do please get in touch if you are interested, I havn't heard much about that production recently, but I'm sure they will be interested to hear from you.
