Just remembered a conversation with someone in the queue on Saturday evening. The woman mentioned that her husband(?) had been involved in restoration work of St. Alban's Cathedral and that there was an accident during which a worker fell off the roof and was quite badly injured. During his investigation it turned out that exactly 100 years earlier somebody had fallen to their death which led me to suspect that the Cathedral demanded a sacrifce every 100 years, which - much to my surprise - got me laughs instead of shocked silence. ;o)

While I disagree with some of it (I do like very little classic German humour and a only a few of the modern acts, most of which are actually stand up comedians), this article makes some very good points about the perceived lack of humour my compatriots are supposed to display (and the difficulties translators face).
