Shiny tech!

Well, 20 years ago, at least.
Not sure if it's a genuine BBS entry of the time or a slight parody but the tech is right. "Ultraportable cellphone" the size of a briefcase, yay!

Moving further down from the giant mobile phones, I have actually supported Windows version 1 before, which was a nightmare. It made me hanker after the relatively easy version 3, note - 3.0, none of this 3.1 for workgroups stuff that would have been heavenly at the time.

The Amiga 1000, I nearly bought one of those believe it or not, but instead got an Atari STe if memory serves.

the STe - my first home computer :D

Ah it was a thing of beauty and crap design, joystick/mouse ports conveniently underneath where you couldn't get to them, read PC formatted discs but not STfm formatted ones, easily overheated, shite keyboard from hell...
Still, the GUI wasn't too bad and it had built in MIDI support.

It's a parody for sure, but a charming and funny one -- thanks!

"...letting you set up base in a corner cafe around the corner from your parked car, and wow (or annoy, depending on your perspective) the other diners as you chat casually on your phone."

The future foretold...

I owned or got to play with quite a lot of that stuff - the Kaypro laptop, the Seiko data watch, a Tandy 200 (the 600 was much later and not nearly as good), the TI calculator, a Lisa, etc.

Now you're just showing your age, Marcus. :o)

hey, i had one of those cellphones, albeit only briefly borrowed from the company I used to work for. It had a standby battery life of around 40 minutes and talk time of 6 minutes, which meant you couldn't stray too far from your car.
