Ebay sellers should state that they're heavy smokers. Urk. At least the flashgun is still in its original packaging so only the outer box stinks like a pub ashtray...
Will give the SB-600 a short test tonight when I've found some batteries.
I got a travel guitar off someone (not on ebay, but on my ISP) and it still smells faintly of smoke (at least five years later) ... I've got a secondhand backpack downstairs (Karrimor) which was dirt cheap up the car boot sale, and it was only when I got it home I realised how much it reeks of smoke (and even after leaving it out on the line during the rain, it still does, I think I'll need to some more strenuous decontaminating!)
And the plate I bought on ebay that arrived this morning came with a smoky aroma to the packaging ... sigh.
... I've tried Febreze, so I think it's oging ot be getting out the scrubbing brush and a bucket of soapy water and giving it a good thrashing, then a good rinse, air dry, and then out with the Febreze again ...
(well, the backpack was only four quid, partly due to one broken buckle (easily fixed I'm sure), partly due to the last owner's name written on it in marker (which came out fairly easily using carpet and upholstry cleaner!) and partly due to it being dirty)
Of course, if I'm travelling on business, then it won't be backpacks, it will be rolling carryons and rolling suitcases.
Damn, either this keyboard is doing silly things to my typing, or my right hand is typing faster than my left ... I keep getting characters swapped around at the moment (I touch type) and it's always right hand characters getting ahead of left hand characters ... of course this is an "old" Microsoft natural keyboard, (bought second hand in a car boot and cleaned up) so it might be that either I'm not fully used to it (the left hand keys do seem to act as though I'm pushing them not straight down, but at a slight angle so it feels a bit like they are binding a bit ...)
I remember when my dad stopped smoking that we replaced all the soft furnishings including carpets and curtains in the living room because they would still stink (and needed replacing, anyway).
It would be funny, though, to turn up travelling journeyman style, with your bundle on a stick. ;o)
Yeah, my budget didn't extend to a SB-800. My old Metz is too old to be supported so I needed a new one. Managed to save at least £50 compared to current high street price.
