Richard Thompson

Wow, just wow.
Stripped down to the raw music (only him on guitar and Danny Thompson on upright bass) and the poetry. Almost two hours (including encores) at an almost sold out Corn Exchange.
I've only heard bits of his music and don't own any but this will change after tonight. What a superb gig for £17.50.

And here's a lyric snippet for [livejournal.com profile] puddingcat:

I need a girl with a feel
For Faraday’s wheel
A girl who’ll drool
For Fleming’s Left Hand Rule

I heard this and thought of you. ;o)

Forget Winnebagos

This is the real deal.

The kitchen is bigger than mine! Thinking about it, the whole thing has more living space than my studio flat...
And it goes cross-country, too.

And for the sad Vampire players, mobile haven, anyone? You only need to install blackout blinds (which it might have already).

Pub people

Due to car troubles, I don't know if or when I'll be at the pub tonight.
[livejournal.com profile] razornet, this might mean I won't be able to pick up the CD case.

Music for Charity!

I finally found the time to vote for the tracks for the Out of Madness compilation.
For those of you who don't know, it's an alternative music compilation put together by [livejournal.com profile] sogoth and [livejournal.com profile] lineoutrecords.
Check out the website and sign up to vote for the tracks that should go onto the CD and receive the CD when it's done.
It's all for a good cause, too. £10 well spent, I'd say.

Danny Thompson

Up until last night, I hadn't heard of him but was utterly blown away by his skill on the double bass. He can play everything from quiet accentuation to a full-out Funk-like slapping sound and classical use of the bow (and not so classical, producing really odd sounds, too). Absolutely brilliant. His style complemented Richard's (no relation) virtous guitar playing wonderfully and they often bounced bits and pieces back and forth.

This website has a biography and a few nice photos (incl. two with Richard Thompson which give a very good feel of how last night's gig was like).

There's also a great quote which covers a lot of what (hand made) music means to me:
"I didn't take up music to be in a studio, it's to be on stage, like going on stage is where I'm at and it shows in the music...it's different every night."

Musings

It's when I see photos like this one (or most of the others on that community) when I realise that I'm barely scratching the surface in my photography...

Cambridge Corn Exchange events coming up

Sing-along Rocky Horror Picture Show, 10th of March
This is a showing of the film, not a live perfomance, sadly, but with full audience participation (it says sing along, it doesn't mention callbacks but I assume that's allowed.

Jerry Springer, the Opera, 10th - 15th April
That's more like it and relatively pricey but a ticket for this would make a nice birthday present (hint hint) ;o).

Anyone interested?
