Heh, funny you should say that, I was actually accosted by a security guard in Canary Wharf blathering on about needing a permit for "professional" photography, pointing at my camera. As if he was able to tell the difference between a consumer level camera and mine (SLR automatically means pro in their minds, I wonder what they would do if I turned up with a GF1, which is a pro camera but looks like a compact). They seem to think that having pro equipment automatically means you're a pro. A few exchanges later and he "let me go this time" after me assuring him that I was harmless.
I had no problems in the City.

The pointy thing is somewhere along Borough Hight St near London Bridge, on the right (coming from the South walking towards the river).
