Here's a classic to look forward to

Key scenes of Metropolis found
They found a complete director's cut of the Fritz Lang classic in Buenos Aires. I hope they'll be able to restore it all.
I'm amazed that it's still there at all, I thought the material used for films those days didn't actually have that long a natural lifespan, even when just sitting on a shelf for over half a century.
Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ffutures for the link.

Oooooooh, excellent! I got the DVD of the last restoration they did, and that looked amazing, but there were missing scenes. I hope they can do a complete restoration now. :)

It's amazing that some old films turn up in such good condiction. I think that if the conditions it's stored in are right, it can last for a very long time.

Buenos Aires is extremely hot and humid (I still feel awful at the memory), which doesn't sound like ideal conditions for making anything last.

That is really stupidly exciting - thanks for sharing the link! *potters to propagate*

Splendid. I too have the last restoration (2-disc set, about 2001), and will be very interested to see what else they crowbar into it this time (and whether they have an eqwually complete organ score to go with it...)

Fantastic!

One of my favourite films, if not my favourite. I've got the last remaster of it, and it's wonderful. But I was so upset to realise I was missing out on the scene where the children are rescued - the couple of stills showing it make it look fantastic!

Looking forward to an eventual full release now...
