[Film] Cloverfield

Was good. It's a monster ravages Manhattan romp filmed from the perspective of a group of people who end up right in the middle of it and their struggle to get out and/or survive.
The shaky cam was bearable but I guess people who suffer from motion sickness easily should be advised against watching this film. There's a lot of mayhem but little blood/gore.

Considering nothing was resolved and we don't know how it actually ended (monsters dead in the "hammer down" or not) might mean we'll see a sequel but I'm not sure if I want to.

I thought the head of the Statue of Liberty was far too small but I checked the stats and it's 5.3m from chin to cranium, so that about fits.

I stayed til the end of the trailers and then completely missed the sound bite at the end. What did it say?

At the end it sounds like "Help us" but it is played backwards and actually says "It's still alive"

Do you remember when they were on the bridge near the start? Just before the brother dies, you see another man recording everything on a camera? Hints dropped that the sequel will be concurrent...

Also, at the end, on the ferris wheel... did you see anything?

I heard the director mention in a few interviews that the monster was actually just a distressed baby. So maybe we'll see the mother in the sequel. :-D

Ah, thanks!

*nods*

No? Your powers of observation are probably better than mine or I was getting tired. ;o)

Something falls into the sea in the top right of the screen...

I find it surprising so many people missed that. I pointed it out to the two friends I went with, and neither spotted it, and neither did a few people walking out near us.

I've heard the same thing about a sequal. Not sure that it would anything though.

Statue of liberty is indeed correct. The base makes it look bigger than it is :)

The noise at the end ...if you reverse it says "its alive" or "help us" depending on who you believe.

I didn't quite catch it, but was hoping for "the horror..."

It's been reported as "It's still alive"

Did you see the satellite fall into the sea?

[identity profile] azrelle.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I too saw things fall into the sea, not sure what, but something. The sequel potential is huge, but I'm not sure I'd want to see it. It was a good idea to use once. I didn't stay all the way to the end as this is what youtube is now for.

If we are to believe though it was all filmed on camcorder.... damn, I want to know what brand. The sound quality was amazing on that! :) And who made the SD card? If it survives monster attacks, fire, explosions and all that moisture too then I gots to have one of them.

I do heartily recommend watching the film with a row of nervous teenage girls behind you. I laughed rather hard at the "why dont you try switching on the nightvision?" moment.

Haha, photographers think alike, it seems. Not to mention an SD card that can hold almost 90 minutes of widescreen footage. The characters kept talking about tape, though.

There weren't that many people in the cinema (early evening showing) and nobody was sitting directly behind me so it was reasonably quiet. Nobody seems to have puked, either.

We did sweeney todd and cloverfield in the same night. I'm glad we left cloverfield to last as Martin fell asleep during Sweeney Todd and it was quite as well paced as I'd hoped it would be. Cool film though.

I did a youtube for cloverfield. There's no way you'll see the splash on a youtube quality vid, but there definitely was something that fell in the water in that final clip as I remember wondering if it was intentional or not. The sound clip thing is just cool if it is actually true.

ooh, actually.... continuity??

The start says it's a reclaimed memory card found at the scene did it not? But you are correct that they keep referring to the tape......

Yep.
