Don't forget

I (and three other Germans I don't know) will be on 209 Radio (just click the green OGG link) from 12 noon BST discussing life in the UK as a foreigner and specifically German. Looks like I'll only be able to play one piece of music, though. :o(
If you can't listen live, the program will be available as download from tomorrow (I'll post a link).

Marvellous! :-)
I shall be with my ear to the speaker and tea in my hand.

[identity profile] morgenstern23.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 10:27 am (UTC)(link)
Cool, I'll have a listen. :)

Hey they corrected your name :)

[identity profile] sublevel3.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought you came across really well, and came across as an individual, even though the guy made a point of saying that he didn't like your music. :)

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Cheers!
*laughs* I just wanted to play something obscure. He cued the wrong track (Steht auf instead of Fantastisch automatisch), though. :o(

[identity profile] von-geisterhand.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, but compared to Wir sind Helden and Anna Sophie Mutter, his choice was very "out there". ;-)
But yeah, good work!

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you expect anything else from me? I didn't want to go too obscure (neofolk or noise/minimal electronics).

[identity profile] sublevel3.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I thought you were very restrained in your choice. Better than the other disposable pop, although the classical track was nice.
Do you not fancy taking the host up on his offer and maybe contributing to the radio station by doing an "alternative" german music show?

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] raggedy_man and I have been thinking about doing an Octaine show on 209. As the clubnight is now dead, it might be an idea to resurrect it in another way.
Just an alternative German show would be too narrow for me but if they come up with a regular German slot, I'd be very much interested in contributing.

[identity profile] von-geisterhand.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, truth be told, I would not have put it beyond you to bring some Fennesz or Ant-Zen. ;-)
But would probably been wasted.

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the looks would have been funny. "Argh, my decks are broken." - "No, they aren't" :o)
I did have some Das Ich, too, which would have been a fitting choice as they are from the same area in Germany.
If we ever get round to doing an Octaine radio show, I'll play that, too. :o)

I can about imagine that

[identity profile] von-geisterhand.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"And for the next hour I will be playing some of the most offensive german songs imaginably, which won't be a problem, seeing that nobody here has any idea what they are singing.

We shall start with Zentriert ins Antlitz und "Geschäftsfrau" followed by Die Kassierer mit "Meister aller Fotzen"." ;-)

I suppose with the scene I'm involved in, I get the false impression that most germens like electronic music and because of the size of the alternative scene and festivals there, the DAC etc. that the alternative scene is more embraced. I suspect the reality is much like here though, that cheesy pop music is the majority and it's only due to numbers of people and the size of germany, that alternative scene is more catered for.

[identity profile] von-geisterhand.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Let me put it like this: I hardly listen to normal radio nowadays because the pop-shite on it is just not bearable for longer than half an hour. In Berlin, you can occasionally be lucky and find something a bit different, but Hamburg, for example, was horrible.

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Inherently, the Germans' taste in music is bad. :o)
You wouldn't believe the amount of pop tat in Germany but there's a very healthy rock/metal scene (just look at festivals like Wacken and Rock am Ring), too. The alternative/goth scene is comparatively small but still well catered for compared to the UK. For example, you can find mags like Zillo or Sonic Seducer at most newsagents and can buy goth/EBM CDs in main street department stores.

So thrilled was an American friend by this, she just could not help herself but took a photo of the EBM-section in Saturn. :-)

On a related topic, I heard "Three is an orgy, four is forever" by Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio recently and wondered if anybody could recommend one of their albums to me. Or tell me which ones to stay away from...
(Still not listening to DiJ, though.)

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh.

Hm, [livejournal.com profile] sublevel3 or [livejournal.com profile] jonny_eol should be able to help you there, I actually don't have any of their albums, just a few tracks from compilations.

[identity profile] sublevel3.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Cocktails Carnage Crucifixion and Pornography", "Apocalips", or their split with Spiritual front which "Three is an Orgy is from", called "Satyriasis, Somewhere Between Equilibrium & Nihilism". Although I really like their earlier incarnations and albums as well.

[identity profile] von-geisterhand.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. :-)
I shall have a look for those.

Don't forget to mention the "Wave & Gothic Treffen", the "Amphi Festival" or the "M'era Luna" just to mention a few gothic festivals.

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Klar.
