Another easy larder raid dinner

I had a small head of savoy cabbage, two really nice, fleshy tomatoes, some ham and half a block of cheddar.

I separated the cabbage into leaves, cut out the stems, washed them and blanched them in boiling salted water for a few minutes.
Meanwhile I made a cheese sauce (blonde roux, milk, salt, pepper, grated cheddar).
I brushed an ovenproof dish with butter, lined it with the cabbage leaves, added tomato slices, flung on the ham cut into strips and smothered everything in the cheese sauce. The rest of the cheddar went on top and the whole thing into a preheated oven for about 30 mins.
Om nom nom.

That contains all that is good about food...cheese, ham, tomato and a bit of greenery :-) Oh yes.

Nice tomatoes in January! -- where were they from?

I got them in my organic box from Riverford (http://www.riverfordsacrewell.co.uk/) (who get them from Spain currently). A bit unsual because they tend to stick to seasonal produce but the toms were nice.

Mmm, I've just looked at the site, and that does look like a good set of selections. I wonder if T would consider it betrayal of the allotment if we were to get a box during the winter months ;-)

Heh.
I've found their quality and value to be excellent but the main reason I'm using them instead of a more local provider is that they offer small enough boxes for a one person household.
Another great thing is the variety (not necessarily during winter) and you get to try things you wouldn't usually buy.
