I know good old NYHC had a couple of heavy bands going but to say it was 'mindless' is a bit dismissive of the whole thing. As to 'emo-core' I had always thought it was the origional name based on the tradition of [sub-genre]-core naming for all flavours of punk and not just the heavy stuff (as seen by ska-core and queer-core).
