I went to [pre-college school that doesn't really have an equivalent over here] with two poor guys, one called Kalbskopf (calf's head) and the other one Schniedel (which - and "Schniedelwutz" - is also a colloquial term for penis, so his nickname was "Wutz"). There are many profession based names, incl. negative ones like Pascher (old term for smuggler which makes perfect sense for our region).
