Yeah, a "mirror" of cream (the thicker the better, single cream didn't work very well) on the plate, a blob of coulis in the centre and a some more around the edge of the cream mirror and then you take a skewer or other blunt object and draw a pattern through it. It's a lot simpler than it looks. What I would have needed was a piping bag or similar contraption to get an even band of coulis around the edge...
