Apologies to [livejournal.com profile] kmrikky for not playing the EBM Remix of Embrace, the decks wouldn't accept my CDR, despite using a high-grade Audio one. Bloody things. :o(

I do like your sets. OK, I'm not keenp on the goth metal *at all* but no one can say you are not varied and exposing people to new music.

How did Wai Pi Wai and Pryoecto Mirage go down? I'm loving those two tracks.

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 11:30 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly that is the point of our night. :o)

It was late and there were only a few people left so nobody danced in the last half hour but I got good comments afterwards, especially for the harsh stuff.

Our aim isn't necessarily filling the dancefloor but exposing people to unusual music they don't get to hear anywhere else and we're more than happy to play local/unsigned bands, too.
We've been called the "John Peel of clubnights" before. :o)

"We've been called the "John Peel of clubnights" before. :o)"

That's a compliment and a half! Seriously though, it must be nice to have that kind of freedom, that you know you can play anything that's *good* not just because it has the right beat.

Don't get me wrong as I'm also relishing the challenge of keeping people dancing but whilst looking through the CD case I can't help thinking "I wonder what would happen if I played that...".

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
It's our own night so we can play what we damn please (which was the point of setting it up in the first place). :o)

Oh yes. I'm really happy when I accomplish this with typical German goth fare (that's hardly known over here) when I play at The Calling (the Cambridge goth night). I usually play a better known track to get people dancing and follow with something unknown in a similar style, which usually means they stay on the dancefloor.

Me and Chica ([livejournal.com profile] bezerkangel) will have to come down and check it out one night as you are not really that far away.

You got a website linky?

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Octaine (http://www.octaine.co.uk). Past setlists are on there and this one should be up after weekend when I've correlated all and sent them to [livejournal.com profile] dj_slingshot who's maintaining the site.

We're only running three per year or so at the moment, the next one will be sometime early next year.
You'd be more than welcome and if you want a guest DJ slot, let me know.

I'll announce it here as soon as we've got a date.

[identity profile] rivetmike.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I have just joined the LJ community so I'll keep an eye on things there too.

Course, I'd be up for a guest slot. I'd jump at the chance to inflict some of my more random CDs on people :)

[identity profile] raggedyman.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
If you want a crack at DJing Octaine let us know, we have a very open door policy :-)

[identity profile] rivetmike.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Cheers mate, I already said to Ozzy that I'd like a go and hopefully I'll be able to drag a few people down from London too :)

Mind if I add you on this LJ lark?

[identity profile] raggedyman.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
go for it, though i must warn you that my journal is a silly place of low interest

[identity profile] rivetmike.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Likewise, sure we'll get along.

Nightwish to Soman and Orphx, now there's a challenge!!

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
Hehehe!
Soman and Orphx blended really well, actually.

[identity profile] davefish.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds like a great night.

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It was good fun but could have done with a few more people.

[identity profile] sogoth.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I miss Octaine. I wish we lived closer :\

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
We should all move to Nottingham. :o)

[identity profile] sparksoflight.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
And leave Cambridge with even less of a live and club scene going for it than it currently boasts? I forbid!

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
True.

[identity profile] raggedyman.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
No Fair! It was all highly clearly written this time!
sorry for the bug out btw, not what i wanted but had to be :-(

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't want you to read mine, either. ;o)
Check your mail and let me know if I deciphered it correctly.

Not at all, I had enough music left. Is K feeling better?
