This evening's dinner

was pork strips Stroganoff style with green beans.

4 pork loin steaks, cut into strips
punnet of brown mushrooms, sliced
2 medium onions, cut into rings
packet of green (French) beans
soured cream
olive oil
salt, pepper, smoked paprika

Top and tail the beans, cut into bitesize pieces, season with salt and steam until tender but still with bite.
Sear the loin steaks in olive oil in a smoking hot frying pan. When sealed, add the onions and mushrooms, season with salt, pepper and paprika (smoked, if you have) turn the heat down to medium and cook until the onions are soft, stirring occasionally. Add a tub of soured cream, stir and let bubble away until thickened a bit (and the meat is done). Mix in the steamed beans for a bit of colour and serve on a bed of rice.

Apologies for the lack of photo. It's one of those dishes that are very hard to make look like it hasn't been eaten once already...

Ha! For once I can see one of your recipe posts and not be embarrassed about the frozen pizza I stuck in the oven earlier!

Today's lunch was leg of lamb with slices of garlic inserted into the flesh, roasted in (and regularly basted with) a mixture of redcurrant and mint jelly, which was then mixed with the water from boiling the vegetables and thickened to make gravy (very rich, very nice). Roast potatoes (the sort where the spuds are almost cut into thin slices. I'm sure there's a name for the technique). Shredded, parboiled and fried savoy cabbage; thick-cut leek and mushroom, seared in oil & butter, seasoned and steamed; steamed brocolli, and a home-made steamed syrup sponge pudding to follow, with (Birds) custard.

I am so proud of myself! ;-)

Well, there will be lamb and mint-sauce sandwiches on the menu for a couple of days, that's for sure. Other than the gravy though, the rest has pretty much gone!

I did think of you as I was serving it up actually. I almost took a leaf out of your book and reached for a camera (the lamb and potatoes looked pretty damn photogenic!), but the need to plate up for a family of five before anything went cold took precedence!

*nods* Taking a photo isn't always easy when you actually want to eat the food.
