BBC to produce Dirk Gently adaptation
written by Howard Overman (who wrote the superb Misfits), to be shown on BBC4. Lots of geek site links but no direct link from the BBC yet but it's mentioned in passing here.

Personal anecdote: I read the Dirk Gently books just before I moved to Cambridge (unknowing that they were set there). In my first week, I took a wrong turn somewhere and ended up in city centre (that was in '96 when you could still drive in) and then had a bit of a hard time finding my way through the one-way system until I finally managed to end up somewhere on the ring road.
That's when I thought, 'hang on, I know about this' and then I remembered. There's a line in the first book that goes something along the lines of "he escaped the Cambridge one-way system which involved him going round and round in circles until he reached escape velocity and would veer off into a random direction and then use the first roundabout to orient himself."
And that's exactly what I did.
